			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Today businesses all over the world have ample opportunities through social networking and media to promote ideas or bands. To be more specific, Facebook and Myspace provide brand webpages and business home sites for many to promote their ‘golden idea’.</p>
<p>The biggest question here is how as a business, if you want to promote a brand, get in on this social media goldmine that does profit from a technology based audience? Promote your brand as furturistic, technology friendly, and an environmentally safe product.  For example a brand of hiking clothes or accessories can very much be do well on the internet with a growing number of fans within a group that is associated with hiking. This brand should create a Facebook  page, a tweeter feed, or a Myspace; anything or everything that can connect with what youre selling to the global market ,globally.</p>
<p>The key to that is social media, new forms of communication that bring the corners of the earth even more closer then what would was promised before. Also consider where exactly does the you’re global audience transfer to, now a days the fan base for Myspace is not as great as Facebook and Facebook is rivaling 2009’s Twitter.</p>
<p>The newest form of social media leans toward Twitter, free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets.</p>
<p>As an example, I have a hiking business and my new brand is a new hiking jacket, how can I fully utilize my knowledge and accessibility to this new social media known as twitter. I can put a face or a situation to my brand, I can sell my brand doing exactly what it’s suppose to do. Have athletes or well known hikers or even celebrities wear my jacket, tackle situations and challenges in the gear that my company provides so that I can back up what I’m selling.</p>
<p>Twitter can work in to this, so that the hiking fan base and the o natural audience that my company is targeting can easily follow in on these athletes, well known hikers or even celebrities that wear the gear and challenge themselves in nature with the guarantee of what my company offers actually improve your hiking experience.</p>
<p>I have just given a specific example of how exactly I could the newest social media to benefit my selling brand. Social media is broken in to so many sub categories, and clubs and different types of audiences. Facebook and Myspace and Twitter is goldmine for marketers and advertisers because you can sell almost anything that will already have an existing audience and at the same time you can sell to many different types of audiences, because it’s a social network with many intercepting interests and compatibilities between actual people. </p>

The  use of social media sites is becoming one of the most reliable and fastest  way to sell and advertise products. Today&#8217;s businesses are just a few clicks away from having a public page or profile on almost any social media website which means access to celebrities, mothers, students, seniors, millionaires or any targeted population.</p>
<p>The top social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and  even blogs allow for businesses to open public profiles to advertise their products or services. By having a page or profile on these social media sites a business is guaranteed to have a spot on people&#8217;s pages and to reach their audience as we see with businesses ranging from Coca Cola to Baby Phat just to name a few.</p>
<p>On these social media sites, businesses can also benefit not only from the public profiles that draw people, but also the additional advertisements which they pay for which also attracts users. The events, promotions or free giveaways are usually what catch people&#8217;s attention, then the curiosity leads them to the businesses&#8217; external website which they are lead to by links. In addition, the staff in the business might have their own blog which links to their Facebook and Twitter which just connects all their friends and assures they can visit all three social media sites and even increase the number people who visit and see  what their business is all about.</p>
<p>In order to communicate brand identity to the users of social media sites businesses are increasingly investing more time  and thought when creating their social media personality. That is because the media personality is used to portray the business or the brand. The online personality that businesses put forward often determines what age group, or people they attract, as we see with the iPod who target mostly the youth via their colorful, energetic and vibrant online personality as seen on these social media sites.</p>
<p>The online personality does not only represent the brand, but it is used as a means of interaction between businesses and their targeted clients or consumers. The character, face or voice of the brand is shown via these social media sites which then people can relate to and would want to be associated with either by adding the businesses&#8217; public profile as a friend, becoming a fan or visiting the businesses&#8217; website which would increase the chances of them buying the products or signing up for the services being offered.</p>
<p>In this new decade starting in 2010 we shall see new social media sites come up which will connect people to businesses faster, more frequently and easier. This is the latest way for businesses to sell themselves and it will only reach new heights. If any business wants to reach out to their targeted audience these days a page or profile on a social media page is mandatory to be seen, become a known  brand and to keep with the competition. </p>

<p><strong>1. Keep Your Tweets Short. </strong></p>
<p><strong></strong>What is interesting about Twitter is that it forces a person to convey a message within 140 characters. If your receiver re-tweets your message, room must be available so that credit is given to the person who sent the original tweet (an unwritten Twitter rule).</p>
<p>So keep in mind to shorten your url&#8217;s and use as little characters that you can. Using url shortening tools like bit.ly will help greatly.</p>
<p><strong>2. Use Universal Twitter Abbreviations and Acronyms</strong></p>
<p>Using abbreviations and acronyms are allowed and I do not have a problem when people use them. However, as an online business owner, I feel you should always be professional and use abbreviations that do not effect your message and lessen your presence online.</p>

<p>What I like best about Twitter is that it allows you to choose who you want to follow and who you want following you. This allows you to have a more targeted market of people that you can tweet to. So as to keep their attention, tweet about; the best, the worse, the smallest, the biggest, the easiest, the hardest etc&#8230;that relates to their interest.</p>
<p>Providing top notch information (tweets) that have EYE catching headlines will help make your message go viral.</p>
<p><strong>4. Remain Visible</strong></p>
<p>Keep in mind that a combination of business and non-business related tweets can build a large and loyal following. As for the percentage of each, that will be all up to you. Gauge your results for accuracy.</p>

As a small business utilizing Twitter as a tool to implement your social media strategy when outlining your goals and expectations will help you to grow your business. As previously discussed, there are mistakes that people make on Twitter that are maddening. It becomes maddening when the mistakes are repeated over and over again. I would like to think that those repeat offenders are in the minority however with each new auto DM that I get, I am discouraged. The good news is that there are so many more pros of Twitter that diminish the cons.</p>

Twitter allows access to a vast audience, both nationally and internationally, and it is a great opportunity to connect with people you would otherwise never have known. The majority of businesses now accept that they should have a Twitter presence, but many are not sure how to maximise their Twitter profile. To maintain an active and interesting Twitter account, make sure you adhere to the following:</p>
<p style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; font-weight: normal;"><strong>1. Twitter is not a forum for spamming followers.</strong></p>
<p style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; font-weight: normal;">Nothing will turn off genuine followers faster than continually spamming them about your products or services. Remember, people like to read tweets that interest them. A catalogue of what you have to offer does not make for engaging reading.</p>
<p style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; font-weight: normal;">You can let people know about your products or services in more subtle ways. Use your bio to tell people about your business. Include a link to your website on your Twitter profile so that people can find out more at their discretion. With so many accounts on Twitter you need to balance having an ongoing presence with not over tweeting. The amount of tweets you do per day is up to you, but it does need to be a regular activity. You may wish to consider automating some tweets so that you maintain regular contact with your followers without continually interrupting your workday.</p>

Twitter allows you to send 140 character messages instantaneously across the web. But does it really matter? How Important is Twitter for business? With just a glance over the subject, we can clearly see five big reasons why Twitter matters, and why you should pay attention:</p>
<p style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; font-weight: normal;"><strong>1. People love to share</strong>. This is true for the internet at large, but it&#8217;s even more true with Twitter. Human beings love to share things with each other, and Twitter allows us to do that in a modern way.</p>
<p style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; font-weight: normal;"><strong>2. You can command authority</strong>. If you&#8217;re using Twitter in the right way, you&#8217;re building authority amongst your readership. Twitter allows you to command credibility based on what you&#8217;ve said, or recommended in the past. Because of it&#8217;s short, hyper nature Twitter is perfect for marketers of all sorts.</p>
<p style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; font-weight: normal;"><strong>3. It&#8217;s hip</strong>. This might seem like a trivial reason &#8211; but it&#8217;s actually not! It&#8217;s tremendously importantly. Twitter has an aura of cool, of being hip. That sort of aura attracts other users, and quickly snow balls into a cultural event &#8211; and that&#8217;s what&#8217;s happening with Twitter right now. Even if your friends and competitors aren&#8217;t using the service today, you can be sure that in twelve months from now they will be. And that&#8217;s exactly why you need to get in on the ground floor.</p>
<p style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; font-weight: normal;"><strong>4. Hyper-branding</strong>. If you&#8217;re a business, Twitter allows your customers to hyper-engage with your brand. This is a very practical way of rapidly increasing brand loyalty. Be careful though, this can work the other way. Remember how people love to share? That includes complaining.</p>

Anything in the public time line can be searched, indexed, and copied. A Direct Message, however, is private. No one other than the recipient can read the message.</p>
<p>While this is an obviously useful tool in principle, it has become useless in practice. Many, if not most, serious Twitter users now use software to automatically send DMs to their new followers. Here&#8217;s a sampling that took me less than thirty seconds to compile:</p>

<p>These are all examples of what I like to call the problem with direct messages. These messages, while attempting to sound personal &#8211; end up sounding the same. I have over 800 of them sitting unread at the moment &#8211; and I suspect that that number will continue to grow. These types of Direct Messages offer nothing original, and give me literally no reason to remember your name.</p>
<p>But even worse, they end up making the people who send them look foolish. When you send an automated DM like one of the above, you sound robotic, and impersonal! You lose alot of credibility in my books when you&#8217;re exploiting a tool while pretending it&#8217;s an honest connection.</p>
<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">Why not just <em>be honest and personal</em>? Why not just give me something that&#8217;s at the very least interesting? To be clear &#8211; there are people who do this, but very few. Jokes can work, for example (but even these are becoming somewhat tired). A recent positive trend has been to send a link to your &#8220;Twitter landing page.&#8221; A Twitter landing page is just simply a page on your blog or website detailing information about you and your tweets. It can be interesting, informative, and give people a reason to be a part of your audience.</div>
